Version anglaise : House of Alphonse-Georges Poulain (1875–1966) Dating back to the 15th century, this house with its sculpted façade was originally built against the city walls. It was purchased in the 1920s by Alphonse-Georges Poulain, an archaeologist, sculptor, painter, poet and friend of Claude Monet. Fascinated by the Middle Ages, he built the façade in the style of the 15th century in 1922, drawing inspiration from the sculptures of the Palais de Justice in Rouen to create his own. The house is composite because the part facing the Seine was destroyed by a bomb during the Second World War and was rebuilt in the early 1950s. The veranda was added in 2015. Ideally located in the heart of the town and only an 8-minute walk from Vernon-Giverny station, it overlooks the historic side of a quiet but lively street with several restaurants, a welcoming bar and a billiard room. On the Seine side, the large veranda on the first floor allows you to enjoy the Normandy light that fascinated the Impressionist painters, the view of the Château des Tourelles and its grounds, without any disturbance. The house is 167 square metres on three levels with a spiral staircase in the centre leading to the upper floors. The first floor comprises the living room (35m²) with a fireplace with a high-performance blower insert, the kitchenette with a laundry area for clothes, a space for family meals and the kitchen (25m²) itself with a central island (high-voltage electrical connection in the floor so that it can be moved and/or kitchen units can be integrated into it). Next to the door, a storage space for cardboard and glass recycling bins also serves as a thermal and sound buffer. In the hallway leading to the upper floors, there is a door giving access to the vaulted cellar. Low in height, it can store more than 500 bottles of wine in optimal conditions. On the first floor, there is an office (to the left of the staircase) with a veranda. The wall on the Seine side is fully glazed and can be partially opened or kept closed. The veranda is 12m² with a treated chestnut floor. It opens onto a tree-lined terrace. To the right of the staircase is a toilet. Continuing along the corridor, you arrive at the master bedroom suite, which includes a series of large cupboards and, through the first door, a large bathroom with a bathtub. The room has an opening onto the skylight between the two buildings, which can be used to ventilate the room. On the second floor, accessed via a staircase featuring a skylight renovated in 2015 (along with the mechanical tile and zinc roof, while the historic part has been refurbished), there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower tray. The bedroom on the Seine side has a large bay window that makes the room very bright and warm. On the town side, the bedroom is noticeably darker but also larger and benefits from the light from the dormer window. The attic can be accessed via a retractable staircase located in the bathroom ceiling. The attic has a Velux window to provide light. It is insulated and can be converted to increase storage space. Apart from the living room, whose windows are listed and remain single-glazed, the whole house is fitted with double-glazed, soundproofed/armoured (resistant to sledgehammer blows) windows with oak frames. The conservatory windows and the conservatory itself comply with SEVESO standards (structural reinforcements and reinforced explosion-proof glass). The house is sold with electrical appliances that are less than 5 years old. The attic is accessible via a trapdoor in the ceiling of the second-floor bathroom. Retractable staircase. Convertible attic to increase storage space. There is a Velux window that opens to allow access to the flat roof for cleaning leaves in autumn and general maintenance.
